The Center for Japanese Studies Universitas Indonesia (CJS UI) was established on 10 February 1995 based on the Decree of the Rector of Universitas Indonesia No. 022/SK/R/UI/1995, and was inaugurated on 2June 1995 by the Minister of Education and Culture of the Republic of Indonesia at the time, Prof. Dr. Wardiman Djojonegoro. CJS UI is located at Universitas Indonesia Depok Campus, West Java, Indonesia. Its establishment was assisted by the Japanese government as a sign of friendship and cooperation between Indonesia and Japan.
Based on the Decree of the Rector of Universitas Indonesia No.2063/SK/R/UI/2048 dated 27 August 2018, CJS UI was designated as a Special Work Unit for Services and Community Service at Universitas Indonesia. The new designation transformed CJS UI into a research center that is expected to perform academic tasks as well as community services. With these new tasks, CJS UI maintains its commitment to the development of Japanese studies in Indonesia. Additionally, through various international collaborative research and activities, CJS UI aims to contribute to global Japanese studies.
Pusat Studi Jepang Universitas Indonesia (PSJ UI) didirikan pada 10 Februari 1995 berdasarkan Surat Keputusan Rektor Universitas Indonesia No. 022/SK/R/UI/1995, dan diresmikan pada 2 Juni 1995 oleh Menteri Pendidikan dan Kebudayaan Republik Indonesia saat itu, Prof. Dr. Wardiman Djojonegoro. PSJ UI berlokasi di Kampus Universitas Indonesia Depok, Jawa Barat, Indonesia. Pendirian PSJ UI dibantu oleh pemerintah Jepang sebagai tanda persahabatan dan kerja sama antara Indonesia dan Jepang.
Berdasarkan Surat Keputusan Rektor Universitas Indonesia No. 2063/SK/R/UI/2018 tertanggal 27 Agustus 2018, PSJ UI ditetapkan sebagai Unit Kerja Khusus Pelayanan dan Pengabdian Masyarakat di Universitas Indonesia. Penetapan baru ini mengubah PSJ UI menjadi pusat penelitian yang diharapkan dapat menjalankan tugas akademik sekaligus pengabdian masyarakat. Dengan tugas baru ini, PSJ UI tetap berkomitmen pada pengembangan kajian Jepang di Indonesia. Selain itu, melalui berbagai penelitian dan kegiatan kolaboratif internasional, PSJ UI bertujuan untuk berkontribusi pada kajian Jepang di tingkat global.
