The READ JAPAN PROJECT 2024 Book Handover Ceremony

It is our great pleasure to announce that the Center for Japanese Studies Universitas Indonesia (CJS UI) has received a generous donation of 126 books from the Read Japan Project 2024, a program administered by the Tokyo Foundation for Policy Research with financial support from the Nippon Foundation. At the end of March 2025, these books officially arrived at CJS UI.

To mark this meaningful contribution, CJS UI hosted The Read Japan Project 2024 Book Handover Ceremony on Friday, April 25, 2025, at its library.

The ceremony was attended by representatives from the Embassy of Japan in Indonesia — Mr. Hoshino Daisuke (Director of the Information and Culture Section), Mr. Hata Hiroyuki (Education Attaché), and Ms. Imas Yuliani (Education Affairs Staff) — along with guests from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), former CJS UI directors, the School of Strategic and Global Studies Universitas Indonesia, the Faculty of Humanities Universitas Indonesia, and the Indonesian Association for Japanese Studies (ASJI).

The event began with welcoming remarks from Dr. Himawan Pratama, Head of CJS UI, followed by a speech from Mr. Hoshino Daisuke. Both speakers emphasized the importance of academic collaboration and cultural exchange between Indonesia and Japan.

Guests were then invited to view a short video introducing the CJS Library’s facilities and activities, followed by a guided library tour.

The highlight of the event was the formal handover of the books by Dr. Himawan and Mr. Hoshino, symbolizing the shared commitment to advancing academic exchange. The ceremony was officially documented.

The event concluded with group photo sessions in front of the audiovisual room and the library entrance.

The Read Japan Project 2024 Book Handover Ceremony reaffirmed the strong academic and cultural partnership between Indonesia and Japan and strengthened CJS UI’s role as a bridge for dialogue between the two nations.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the Tokyo Foundation for Policy Research and the Nippon Foundation for their generous contributions and continued commitment to fostering global Japanese studies. We are also deeply thankful to the Embassy of Japan in Indonesia and the Japan International Cooperation Agency for their invaluable support in connecting our center with this project.
