Ambassadorial Lecture Series on Japanese Studies XII/2024 – 1

Japan has made significant investments in the field of Artificial Intelligence, making it one of the leading technology giants in the world. Its top manufacturers and robotics companies have contributed to this reputation. As of 2022, Japan produces or designs 45% of all industrial robots worldwide, and orders for industrial robots from Japanese manufacturers reached a record $7.35 billion in the same year. The trend towards adopting automation for packaging and transportation is also increasing in various sectors such as logistics, food, and pharmaceuticals. As of 2021, Japan had 631 robots working in the manufacturing sector for every 10,000 humans, while the U.S. had 274. These figures illustrate Japan’s dominant position in the global development of AI and robotics.

These lecture series will explore the development of AI and robotic and its relation to humanity.
